Just in case you were wondering about the saved dog we acquired, she is doing much better.
When we first brought her home she was incredibly skiddish. She had to be by my side 24/7. If she could not see me she would freak out. I took her to see the best Vet in the world, Dr. Dennis Culley. He checked her out and was shocked that she was okay after all that she had been through. She does have a bad ear that must have been infected since she was little and no one ever did anything about it. Don't worry we are. Her poor ear was in so much pain when we got her she would just wimper when you even barely touched it. If she laid down on that side she would wimper. He gave her a shot to reduce the inflamation in her ear and sent me home with some medicine to squeeze in to lubricate and heal the exsisting owie. Now, the swelling is down and as of yesterday it is doing much better. Yup, I still have to medicate her now with oral meds twice a day and the squeezie kind twice a week, but she is so much more comfortable. Thank goodness.
Who ever had her before I think did not feed her in a bowl either. She had to learn how to do that to. No matter what I put in a bowl she did not really eat it. Now if I threw the food on the floor she would eat it but not from a bowl. Now she will. Yeah!
She just does not seem to grasp the concept of play yet. Dr. Culley said that maybe no one ever took the time to just play with her before. Why get a dog if you aren't gonna take care of her? I just have a hard time with that.
Now her life is much better. She has food in a bowl. Water in a big bucket (because she thinks that she is a big messy camel). She has a healthier ear. She has people play with her. People are here to pet her and tell her that she is okay. She is getting a bath today! She is finally feeling secure here I think. She actually barked yesterday! She has not done that since she got here. Her hair is growing back from where they shaved her and her scabs from getting hit are almost healed. I know she is still sore (who wouldn't be?) but she seems much more at ease with us.
I think she will be a good new family member. Never as good as Annabelle. No dog will ever be Annabelle. Maybe Lucky will be a close 2nd though.
