Just when life starts slowing down...

Oh my gosh.
Our tenants moved out in the middle of the night.
Not nice.

I had just called them (again) to find out about some documents they were supposed to send us last month if they had them for me. Also they had a plumbing problem and I was just checking to see if everything was still okay or should I have the plumber return. Oh and that they needed to have the electricity changed over into their name because the bill is still coming to us and we are turning it off from our name (since they did not send us the money to pay for it the last two months when they were supposed to have it changed over to them anyway, according to our contract.) Well, they were not home to receive my call, as usual. So I left a message on their voice mail.

Amazing how I call the tenants then an hour later, they call my brother-in-law and tell him that they moved out the day before. They said they have tried to call both of us and no one ever answers. Well I have been busy with four munchkins true, but I have no messages from the tenants on my home or cell phone. I left them a ton of messages though. My brother-in-law has no kiddos and always answers his phone and he has never gotten a message or call either. Here is the great part though, they said they have been having plumbing problems, the bathtub wont drain, and no one answers their calls to have this fixed for them so they are moving out and the house smells funny, like mold he said, too. They felt that us not taking care of them was going to be an on going problem. That cut me to the quick. I always try to treat others how I want to be treated and it really bothers me if I am not doing that.
So my hubby and I went down to check this out.

We were really feeling bad, wondering what could have happened to the property. We just had all new windows installed, new doors, new forced air and heat, new carpet, new paint inside and out, new laminate in the kitchen and had the plumber down to fix a clogged pipe. I mean we did this literally not even 6 months ago, so this house is practically brand new. So for them to insinuate that we were bad landlords really hurt.
We were really expecting our property to have some serious damage when we got there for them to say all that.

Not one thing wrong when we got there.
Except, the house smells like cigarettes.
EWWHH!
They signed in the contract no smoking in the house.
Hmmmm!

I am assuming that he said the smell was mold because he thought I was to stupid to know the smell of burnt tobacco?
Besides, we did look for any evidence of mold and found none.
My husband even crawled under the house looking for any sign.
Nothing.

We went to the bathtub and ran water next.
The drain ran fine.
I hate wasting water and we ran the water for 10 minutes no drain problems. I ran the dishwasher at the same time, and flushed the toilet and ran the garbage disposal all while the sprinklers were running with no bathtub drain problems. Not even a little backup.
I was not surprised at this point.
Just really hurt.
Why be so mean?
If they did not like it there or they could not afford it, just say so.
It is a recession. We would understand and probably have tried to work with them till they were on their feet again. We have done that before with tenants.
I am just really disappointed too.
I hate being lied to.
Let me say that again..
I hate being lied to.
It is the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, not a time to be wicked.
So I am going to pray for them, even as upset as I am that they have done this to me and my family right now.Which is not cool.
But, everything happens for a reason.
Not sure what this reason is.
Maybe we will have better tenants this next time?

I thought we were good landlords, but maybe I better read up on this.
I just dont want to be the Jerk landlord either.
God, please send us a nice family to live in our property for a long time.
I am all for low rent and long stay.

Maybe the first of the year will bring us what I am praying for?
Time to pull out the real estate agent clothes again and ditch the sweats!
Positively the house is still fairly new, just stinky!!

That totally stinks. People can be so rude. It's hard to find good people to rent to these days. Where is the house and what are you renting it for? I can see if I know of anyone :)
