the sweetest gift ever

The other day my son asked me on the way to school, if he could go to ice skating practice with me and watch Becca that afternoon.
My first thought is that something is wrong.
Did he threaten Becca with showing up and Booing her or something?
Was he planning on embarrassing her in some way?
I glanced back in the rear view mirror for a sign from Bec.
She looked about as surprised as I felt.
Hmmm. What to say....no?
I instead reminded him how cold it is in there and that we need to sit, watch and be supportive while there. Was he sure he wanted to come?
"Yup" he responded.
"You know honey, last time you said it was really boring and you cleaned me out of change for the vending machines. Are you sure you want to go?"
"I have be planning this Mom. I want to go with you okay?"
He looked like he was serious so I answered, "Sure honey. Belle and I would love the company!"

All morning I was trying to figure out why he wanted to go to the rink with me.
I left it in my head that either there was a pretty girl who started taking lessons at the rink or he had something that he wanted to talk with me about in "semi" private. I was leaning toward the private chit chat time.

After school, we came home and got ready for ice skating. When it was time to leave Michael Jr was dressed and ready and on his way to the van.
"Okay" I thought. "This must be pretty important."
We got Becca to class on time, actually a bit early so she could warm up on the ice. Sounds silly doesn't it? Warm up on the ice?? Anyway Michael Jr, Belle and I found a spot kind of away from the majority of the parents and coaches and sat down. I looked at Michael Jr and smiled waiting to hear why he must have wanted to come and freeze his booty off to tell me.

My son pulls his wallet out of his pocket and says to me
"Mom, I know how much you love coffee and I am going to buy you a cup."
My son took the last of his money and went to the vending machines and bought me a cafe mocha and his baby sister a pack of donuts.
He brought them over to me, so proud.
"Here mom, I just wanted to buy you something I knew you would love."
Tears welling up in my eyes I hugged him.
I whispered in his ear "thank you son" because I was afraid that if I spoke any louder I would start bawling.
Then he sat next to me and opened the pack of donuts for Belle so that she could start munching on them. We chit chatted just about silly stuff for the half hour of Becca's class while I sipped on the best cup of coffee I have ever had.

That has got to be one of the sweetest moments of my life.
