Smile!

7 am I got the munchkins out of bed yesterday to the ever famous "Why do we have to get up?"They stumbled around and grumbled at each other angry that the day had to start so early. It was already 80 degrees outside and even after a shower everybody was sticky and sweaty. So it was quite the happy morning over here.
After an hour of getting ready, gobbling up breakfasts, and finding shoes we were now piling into the van to make the dreaded trip to the dentist. Aimee was to have 4 teeth pulled that morning. She was trying to be brave. I was so proud of her. I knew how scared she was too. The teeth in question are not bad, they are just sinking baby teeth. The dentist said that they will ruin her bite if they stay in. So before the even more dreaded braces go on, they should go and visit the tooth fairy.
God and I have had many conversations about this to. I really have a problem with taking out perfectly good teeth. The other side of the situation is that she is so beautiful that I don't want to ruin that for her just because I don't think her teeth should come out. What if her teeth end up getting pulled backward and down because of those teeth and she looks like she got kicked in the teeth by a wild donkey? God help me.
When we arrived the girls in the office are whispering to each other ( and not all that quietly) trying to figure out what to do. Whatever. It's probably due to the fact that I came in with no make up, no contacts today and all the munchkins to go into a tiny room to watch the drama of tooth removal. Hey maybe one of the munchkins will like it and become a dentist! Ouch! My bank account just hit me! Well there is not enough in there for it to have hurt that bad. Guess the future dentist idea is out. So off I go, up to the front desk and sign in. Then I try and get the munchkins settled into a somewhat quiet activity. That was when I realized they were talking about Aimee. I passed the baby off to Becca to play with for a minute and went to the desk sure I had screwed up and came on the wrong day or something and they were going to try and squeeze in 4 extractions. Since I practically live there they are really sweet like that sometimes.
"Um.. Mrs. M.? Your dentist just went home with a stomach virus and we have a problem. Your orthodontist has not put in a request to have those four teeth pulled. Did he happen to give you one?" The ladies are all looking at me questioningly and a bit apprehensive.
"No. Was I supposed to? He works here so I figured you all just shared paperwork" I responded.
"We can't get a hold of him because he is still on vacation and won't be back till this weekend. Well, we are a little nervous about pulling those teeth with out his orthodontic plan. He usually likes to try and leave them in and work with what God gives you" the girl in the front said quietly. I heard 'what God gives you' loud and clear. He heard my prayers and agreed with me. THANK YOU LORD!!!
"No problem. Let's wait then. Set me up the spacer appointment then and we will get those braces on ASAP" I said smiling.
"Really we are so sorry for any inconvenience. We are just really nervous and don't want to take out something that we shouldn't" they were all very apologetic.
"No problem. Honest" I was still smiling. I could tell they were waiting for me to start yelling because I had an early appointment, had to get all the munchkins up and running on a day they could sleep in, and I drove all the way down there. Why was I still smiling and being nice to them? I could tell they were confused. They scheduled me for next week to get started with the braces and I grabbed the munchkins who were playing like they were at home by now, and aimed for the door.
Aimee was so nervous that she had brought a book and was focused on it so she had heard nothing that had gone on up at the front desk. She looked at me questioningly "Mom don't I have to get my teeth out today?"
When I told her what had happened, relief just flowed from her soul. It was so beautiful. She was glowing I swear! " You mean I don't have to get them out?" she asked.
"Not right now honey. Let's see if we can wait till they fall out on there own okay?"
"Okay."

To celebrate we stopped and picked up a new Webkins for each of them. I know, but I was just as nervous as Aimee was and I was relieved as well. I am so glad God heard that prayer.

I feel her relief, the idea of having teeth pulled makes me shudder.
