Our family went to a birthday party for two adorable little boys this past weekend. I am so glad to say that it was a ton of fun. The munchkins all played with their friends, did a couple of party games, had cake, opened presents and we went home. I loved it! There was no pinata, no bounce house, no magician, no super expensive anything. It was just great to get together with friends and be happy that someone was born and a part of our lives. It was just immediate friends (3 families) and immediate family (her side). It was so nice.
I have been the mom that has all that stuff. You want to impress your kids friends with a great party. You want them to talk about it and make your munchkin shine at school for a while after because the party was so great. The down side of this is that the next parent now feels the pressure to do a big party as well. Before you know it the party has cost you a fortune, your broke, you did not get to chit chat with anyone, you have spent hours cleaning your house only to have a bigger mess than when you started, you are physically exhausted and you have tons of presents in your house you have to find room for.
I like this idea of tiny parties. Why have everyone when you can enjoy the day as well if you don't invite the whole world. If I just invite immediate family that is only about 17 people, not to bad. Then maybe 4 or 5 families that would only be another 23 - 28 people, plus us that is 6 more...so that would only be about 46 +/- guests. Oh my gosh!
Okay this year I think we will just have cake and ice cream at home as a family and go out to dinner at the birthday persons favorite restaurant! Works for me! :)
